College and Career Counseling

Nova has a college and career counselor on-site Monday through Thursday, available for meetings with students and/or parents on a range of subjects including:

  • College planning
  • Filling out college and job applications
  • Help with FAFSA
  • Finding scholarships
  • Finding internships, jobs, and service opportunities
  • Creating a resume
  • Learning interview skills

For more information or to schedule a meeting if you are a current Nova student/parent, please e-mail Jennifer Spigner at jaspigner@seattleschools.org.

Many Nova teachers also have an extensive amount of experience helping their students apply to colleges. Since Nova students do not receive traditional grades or a GPA, Nova helps to guide students through the application process. Because of the close teacher-student relationships at Nova, letters of recommendation are easy to ask for and very detailed.

Nova alumni have been accepted into schools such as Western Washington University, the University of Washington, Santa Clara University, the American University of Paris, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, The New School, Oberlin and many others.

The nature of our school also attracts students who acknowledge that attending university isn’t for them. Nova coordinators work with their students to help them start any future path, whether that be trade school, community college, a gap year, or finding a job or internship.
